Tooth Extractions

Tooth Extractions

At Village Family Dentist in Granville, we use every measure to prevent tooth loss in our patients. However, there are certain occasions where a tooth extraction is a necessary treatment. At your appointment, we can discuss your condition, treatment options, and potential outcomes so that you can make the best decision possible in regards to your care.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

There are several reasons a tooth extraction may become necessary, including oral conditions that may form as a result of:

  • Severe Decay
  • Gum Disease
  • Infection
  • Abscess
  • Teeth Spacing Issues
  • Fractured Teeth/Roots
  • Impacted Teeth
  • Orthodontic Correction

Left untreated, teeth that are extremely decayed, damaged or infected can evolve into a more serious problem. Other teeth may become damaged, infection and abscesses can form, and ultimately patients can develop sepsis (a severe infection of the blood).

Types of Dental Extraction

  • Simple Tooth Extraction – A simple tooth extraction may be possible if the tooth is not severely damaged. The tooth will be gently loosened and then removed with forceps.
  • Surgical Tooth Extraction – In certain cases, such as severely damaged or impacted teeth, a surgical extraction may be required. An incision is required to completely remove the tooth.
